torn into pieces, 3:30 PM

i am supposed to be studying right now instead i read people's blog..

i stumbled upon Sarah's. gosh! i miss night duties. its the only time you do crazy things. i remember mine. we ordered macD and we ate at the patient's pantry. our staff room is too far to reach. sometimes, we had it over the nurses' counter and when the night Sister came to check on things, we hide it in the whichever cupboard we can reach. at night when everyone left, we put on slippers and remove the uncomfortable black shoes! haha. we watched youtube, log in to friendster and blogs. we had fun oncall doctors even if he/she have to clerk 6 patients in a night.

my night is always a peaceful one. so far. i dont encounter last office when im on shift or i had to resuscitate a patient throughout the night. i never had that. in fact, i was sleeping after i finished my reports at 5am. wake up at 0530 to sponge patients and wait for the morning staff to take over. i never had 'exciting. adrenaline rush' night. thus, i am one of the nurses that never did resuscitation. never! thats why they like me on shift because nothing will happen. =) but, i cant stand the irritating call bells. the only night i was busy as i could recall was when i had a patient running on blood. if you run a patient on blood transfusion, you'll have to monitor him/her hourly until the blood transfusion is over. its tidious job. hey, running a blood and resuscitation in the middle of the night...? nothing compares to resuscitation during night duties! but, now, we have the anasthetist to do the monitoring for us. how nice..? =)

but, dont ask me to go to the lab or the blood bank in the middle of the night. you will have me cursing under my breath. but still, i miss my ward days. the place i inject people everyday. the place i remember my drugs at the tip on my nailbeds. the place i learn to put up drips and inject antibiotics everyday. the place i cried when my patients deteriorate. the place i had 9 patients under my care. the place i learn to talk back to doctors. haha. the place i learn the hardship for patients undergoing dialysis. the place i nagged at them not to drink so much when they did. the place i got a kick at my stomach when i was trying to do a grangene dressing on a patient's leg. those were the days. ward 55. i miss all of you guys. =)

it hurts.
